Quinn – Healthcare has announced that they are to rebrand to Laya Healthcare with effect from the 14th May 2012. “As from today, May 1st, our new underwriter is Elips Insurance Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of SwissRe,” said managing director, Donal Clancy. “There will be no operational impact on members during the transition period, it’s very much business as usual.
They are having their formal launch on the 14th of May 2012 and are expected to launch new initiative and new plans designed to win market share. Rumours however abound as to whether Laya Healthcare will have to re price their book of business on foot of the launch which could see premium increases on existing plans by as much as 20% according to some sources.
There are also rumours of a fourth health insurer entering the market at some stage this year. If so, this year could to see the biggest shake up in the Irish Health Insurance sector since 2004 when Vivas first entered the market.
The market currently has about 47% of the population covered with annual premiums paid of approximately €2.03 Billion.
